It should be remembered that labels do not serve only to visually identify a brand. They are also carriers of practical and important information for consumers, and in many cases their presence and content are regulated by law.

What must a product label include?
Requirements regarding the provision of information to consumers that affects purchasing decisions and defines the rules for using a given product are, in many cases, set out in relevant legal acts. Some of the most stringent rules apply to food labeling. Not only products causing allergies, but all products must carry the appropriate markings. In addition to the name indicating the type of goods, the label should include a list of ingredients (including allergens and food additives), the expiration date, information on net content, and storage and/or preparation conditions. Products must also include data enabling identification of the manufacturer. Importantly, the information should be provided in a legible manner. The minimum font size is 1.2 mm. An exception applies to very small packages, in which case a font size of 0.9 mm may be used.
Relevant regulations govern not only food product labeling . Special requirements in this regard also apply to cosmetic products and chemical substances and their mixtures. In the case of cosmetics, the label should include data enabling identification of the registered company or responsible person, and specify the name and function of the product, information on the nominal content at the time of packaging, information indicating conditions of use, storage conditions, a description of special precautions, the batch number, and a list of ingredients. Chemical products and their mixtures, on the other hand, must include data enabling identification of the responsible entity, a product identifier, information on the quantity of the substance or mixture, and information specifying the direct impact on living organisms and the environment (warning signs in the form of pictograms, a signal word, hazard statements, and precautionary statements).
Special requirements also apply to toys. In this case, the required information includes: data identifying the product and its manufacturer or importer, markings confirming approval for sale, and a symbol indicating the intended use or specific hazard.
