Find out how Intrex optimized paint packaging for the Danish manufacturer Beck & Jorgensen by developing a custom industrial labeling machine designed to handle various paint bucket sizes with unmatched precision and efficiency. This case study presents the collaboration process and the innovative features of the labeling system that helped optimize production and warehousing.
Beck & Jorgensen, a Danish paint manufacturer, faced the challenge of optimizing the cost-effectiveness of its production and warehousing processes. With paint buckets ranging in size from 3 to 20 liters, the company needed a labeling solution that could accommodate a limited number of variants while maintaining high operational efficiency. Domino SYSTEMS A/S played a key role here, leveraging its extensive experience in labeling and marking solutions to identify and resolve all the main challenges.
Challenges facing the team:
- Aging configurations hindering access to spare parts
- Handling buckets of various sizes — from 3 to 20 liters
- Elimination of errors resulting from manual handling.
- Limited number of machine variants while maintaining high performance
- Adaptation to the existing production line and warehouse logistics
Solution: A custom labeling machine from Intrex
Domino SYSTEMS A/S partnered with Intrex to develop the best possible solution for Beck & Jorgensen. The Intrex engineering team thoroughly analyzed the client’s requirements, existing production layouts, and warehouse logistics, developing a fully customized labeling machine. The machine was designed to perfectly fit into the existing production line and handle buckets with or without handles, as well as multiple label types and sizes.
The newly developed labeler features advanced capabilities: a Domino Vx Series thermal transfer printer for on-the-fly printing of variable data (e.g., color codes) directly onto labels, and a handle-detection sensor that adjusts the bucket’s orientation to ensure precise label placement.
Implementation results
- Increased production speed — 25 buckets per minute
- Easy changeover between different bucket types
- Fewer label types in stock thanks to data printed directly on the label
- Lower storage costs
- Greater flexibility and shorter order fulfillment times
