Together with our partner from Ireland – Codico – we implemented an offline automatic labeling device for the client, designed for packaging bulk products such as tea, coffee, spices, and seeds.
Suki Tea Makers, based in Belfast, began its business story in 2005. Enthusiasts and business partners Anne Irwin and Oscar Woolley, after their trip to Asia, decided to share ethically sourced teas with the world. In the beginning, it was all about good tea and having fun, but they later proved that you don’t need a complicated plan to deliver high-quality products worldwide.
Challenges facing the team:
- Quick changeover between different package sizes and types (pouch, carton)
- Labeling multiple tea varieties on the same line, switched several times per shift
- Non-mass production requiring flexibility rather than standardization
- Very high application precision — the label as the product’s business card on the shelf
Solution: A universal labeling machine from Intrex
Understanding the customer’s needs, together with our partner from Ireland, we proposed a device that automatically feeds packaging — bags and cartons — from a hopper and then precisely applies labels automatically. The device was equipped with a large product hopper, allowing multiple packages to be loaded at once, so the machine operator can perform other tasks while it is running.
The machine is used to apply a large main label along with small round promotional labels. Machines of this type are often additionally equipped with label printing using Domino Series V thermal transfer printers or direct inkjet printing onto the packaging itself using continuous inkjet (CIJ) printers.
